Leading international English-language news outlet WION (World is One News) has its main office in New Delhi. The Essel Group owns the channel and it is a member of the Zee Media network of networks.

In August 2015, Rohit Gandhi was appointed as the founder and the first editor-in-chief of WION by Zee Media to establish the channel. The website of WION was launched in many countries as a free-to-air satellite service on June 15, 2016. Later, on August 15, 2016, the channel began airing on television.

Arnab Goswami and Rajeev Chandrasekhar started the English-language news channel Republic TV in May 2017. Later, in May 2019, Chandrasekhar gave up his ownership of the channel, leaving Goswami as the channel’s major shareholder. Jupiter Capital Private Limited, Chandrasekhar’s business, provided the majority of the channel’s funding.

However, Republic TV has been the subject of controversy due to allegations of biased reporting in favor of the ruling BJP party and suppressing dissent. The channel has been accused of spreading fake news and making Islamophobic statements on multiple occasions. Additionally, Republic TV has been found guilty of breaching the rules of both the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the News Broadcasting Standards Authority.
