Adipurush is a forthcoming movie that is based on the well-known Hindu epic, Ramayana. The makers announced the project with a promotional poster on August 18, 2020. The lead actor, Prabhas, who gained immense popularity with his role in Baahubali, will portray the character of Lord Rama, with Om Raut directing the film. 

Om Raut is a renowned filmmaker who directed the successful period action movie Tanhaji in 2020. His interest in Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, a Japanese-Indian Movie inspired him to adapt the epic Ramayana into a contemporary movie using the latest technology. Raut penned the script while India was under lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prabhas was excited about the project, and production company T-Series Films swiftly joined the team. Adipurush Budget

Adipurush is a highly anticipated movie in the Indian film industry with a whopping budget of 500 crores. The film has allocated half of its budget, which amounts to 250 crores, towards creating exceptional visual effects (VFX). Adipurush has been shot simultaneously in both Hindi and Telugu languages, with plans to dub the movie in Kannada Malayalam, and Tamil languages as well. There were speculations about various actresses being considered for the role of Sita, including Keerthy Suresh, Kiara Advani, Anushka Shetty, and Anushka Sharma, but in November 2020, it was officially announced that Kriti Sanon would be taking on the part. 

Sunny Singh was cast as Lord Rama’s younger brother, Lakshmana, and he joined the sets in February 2021. The makers confirmed Kriti Sanon’s involvement in the film four months later in March 2021.

Adipurush Story Line

As previously mentioned, Adipurush is a movie that is based on the Indian Hindu epic Ramayana. The story primarily follows Lord Shri Ram, who, along with his younger brother, builds Ram Setu and, with the help of Hanuman and his army, fights against and ultimately defeats Ravana, the King of Lanka, in order to rescue his wife Sita.

Adipurush Release Date Postponed

The motion capture shoot for Adipurush began on January 19, 2021. The formal launch and Muhurat shot took place on February 2, 2021, in Mumbai, India. The movie’s principal photography started on the same day, as confirmed by the makers. 

Unfortunately, a massive fire accident occurred at the filming location on the same day, but the team quickly erected duplicate sets to continue filming. In October 2021, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon wrapped up their shoot. Finally, on November 10, 2021, the filming of the movie was completed, as announced by the makers.

OTT Release Date

Adipurush movie will hit the theatres in India on June 16, 2023, and the music for the film has been composed by Sachet-Parampara. Controversy

The Madhya Pradesh home Minister, Narottam Mishra, has announced that he intends to write a letter to Om Raut, the director of Adipurush, requesting the removal of scenes that are deemed objectionable. Mishra has expressed concern that the film portrays the Hindu religion in an unfavorable light, and has called for the scenes in question to be removed immediately. If they are not, legal action will be taken.

Malavika Avinash, the spokesperson for the BJP, expressed disappointment with the director’s approach to the film’s depiction of Hindu mythology. She emphasized the importance of conducting thorough research, including examining the numerous interpretations of the Ramayana available across India and Southeast Asia. 

Avinash criticized the portrayal of Ravana in the film’s promotional materials, claiming that the character looked nothing like an Indian and had been given blue eye makeup and a leather jacket. She called for the film’s creators to be more respectful of history and cultural traditions.
