He used to come once a year to India while pursuing his MBA. He majorly spend time at his father’s office (cotton factory) where he explored about the business opportunity available in India. However, he thought of coming up with his web development company online that can earn him money for his expenses. Therefore, he started Satya Net Solution where he hired few designers and programmers.

However, it did not work out, as people were not aware of internet and web designing.

After completing his education, he started working as a product manager at Microsoft Strategy (A business intelligence software) in Washington DC until 2002. While doing his job, he even started his new website Shaadi.com in 1997.

However, in the 2000s, the market started to crash in the United States, and people were thrown out of their companies. But Anupam Mittal took a wise decision to leave the job by himself and came back to India and worked on Shaadi.com.

Absolutely, this moment was his turning point as he came up with the unique idea of Shaadi.com, where people could easily search online for their soulmates without any need for a greedy mediator. Initially known as Sagaai.com, the name changed to Shaadi.com in 1999 for marketing purposes.

Undoubtedly, internet in India had not developed. Thus, his website did not work well. However, his determination took him towards the idea of targeting NRI’s who were far from their motherland and searching for brides in other countries. Therefore, he shifted his focus towards USA, UK, and Canada. Unbelievably, it did work well!

But what about India? He still had faith in his unique idea of establishing the company in India. Gradually people did register on his website and found partners. From 2007-08, when the internet was slowly developing, people started gaining trust through advertisements and listening to the true stories of different couples.

Therefore, his effort of years paid off.

However, Shaadi.com became the first preference of every bachelor in India, which gained 20 million users by 2011, out of which 3 million people found appropriate partners through this website.

Additionally, he even launched a game named “angry brides”, which promoted the banning of the Dowry system in India. The game became highly popular within a week and gained around 5 Lacs followers.

Despite having success through his website Shaadi.com all over the world, he launched a gaming app Mauj.com. Its a popular app that allowed users to post and share images, video, audio and other forms of content and letting them to publish their own content for the world to view. Additionally, it is a personalized and entertainment based app which allows to share any kind of content with friends and relatives.

Note: Do not confuse Mauj.com with Moj.com, as Moj.com is the photo and video editing app just like Tiktok while Mauj.com is the gaming app.

In contrast to Shaadi.com and Mauj.com Anupam Mittal was appointed as the new chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on April 1, 2006. A non-profit organization that enhances the online and mobile value-added sectors.

Very few people know that Makaan.com is part of Elara Technologies Pte Limited, Singapore. It was started in 2007 for the people who wanted to rent or sell their house and people searching for a home to buy or rent. The agents are also registered according to the locality.
