In a recent court filing, Jamie Spears (Britney Spears’ dad) said he is making preparations to step down as Britney’s conservator. The pop star will finally be free from her father’s control, which has been in place over her life for over 13 years.

Jamie Spears did not supply a timeframe for when he pans on stepping down, but his removal as conservator will mark a momentous turning point in Britney regaining control of her life.

Vivian Thoreen, Mr. Spears’ attorney, told the court during the filing, “Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

She then added that Mr. Spears will only step aside in his role as conservator when several outstanding complaints regarding his management of Britney and her estate have been resolved, claiming that there is no reason for the termination of conservatorship to happen immediately.

In a statement obtained by news reporters at Variety, the pop star’s attorney Matthew Rosengart intends to continue the investigation into the alleged mismanagement of Britney Spears over the years.

He goes on to say, “We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars form his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears’ sworn deposition in the near future.”

It’s been a month since Britney made a formal request that the court do away with the conservatorship put into place by her father over 13 years ago and instate Jason Rubin as the new conservator. Rubin is a forensic accountant and professional fiduciary. This plea for court action saw the approval of all currently involved with Britney’s life, including her mother Lynne Spears and her medical team.

In the pop star’s public hearing on June 23rd, she referred to the conservatorship under her father as “abusive” and asked that it be promptly ended without the need for further evaluation on her part.

Bessemer Trust, the financial firm working to manage Spears’ finances under her father, officially resigned in their role, stating that they wished to respect her wishes to end the conservatorship after hearing her testimony. Her previously court appointed attorney, Samuel Ingham, also resigned after coming under scrutiny when Britney claimed she didn’t understand the legal actions she could take under her conservatorship. The court then allowed the pop singer to hire an attorney of her choice, which was Rosengart.

Rosengart is known for taking cases related to celebrity legal disputes and was once a federal prosecutor. He wasted no time in starting on getting her father removed as conservator. Telling the court that he believed the relationship between Britney and her father was unhealthy, he said that ending the conservatorship with him would be her best option.

In his court documents, Rosengart wrote, “Although proper conservatorship exists to protect a conservatee from undue influence, it is apparent that this conservatorship has allowed would-be influencers to take control of the Estate and exploit Ms. Spears, often for their own benefit.”
