Ameera Shah, the promoter and managing director of Metropolis Healthcare Limited, oversees a chain of diagnostic centers. Her father, Dr. Sushil Shah, is a pathologist, while her mother, Dr. Duru Shah, is a gynecologist. Ameera pursued her education in finance abroad and worked for Goldman Sachs before embarking on an entrepreneurial journey. She combined her business acumen with her father’s medical expertise, resulting in the establishment of a colossal diagnostics company with a staggering market capitalization of Rs 6,478 crore.

Determined to fulfill her father’s dream, Ameera Shah took it upon herself to embark on the journey of realizing his vision.

Ameera Shah initiated the process of modernizing operations by introducing new talent and establishing fresh departments to ensure seamless functioning, as reported by Your Story. She implemented processes and procedures to streamline the operations of the laboratory, aiming for a smooth and efficient workflow.

With the support of her father, Ameera Shah assumed the role of CEO within her company. She adopted a bottom-up approach, beginning her journey by personally attending to patients at the customer care counter and actively resolving day-to-day issues. Ameera Shah took a significant step by renaming the company from “Dr. Sushil Shah’s Laboratory” to “Metropolis.” Additionally, the company forged partnerships with other laboratories, with the initial collaboration being established in Chennai alongside pathologist Dr. Srinivasan.

The company experienced rapid growth, securing its first external funding in 2006. They wisely reinvested the earnings back into the business. Initially, in 2002, they operated with just one laboratory generating a revenue of Rs 7 crore. However, by 2023, their revenue soared to an impressive Rs 1148 crore. In the March quarter alone, the company achieved a net profit of Rs 33 crore. Presently, they boast a network of over 1500 collection centers and more than 125 laboratories. Their operations extend to seven countries.
