At the age of 82, Arun Bharat Ram began his career in 1967, joining the textile division of Delhi Cloth & General Mills (now DCM), a family-owned business. In 1970, he founded SRF Ltd, which initially manufactured nylon tyre cords. Over the years, the company has expanded to include a diverse range of sectors such as fluorochemicals, specialty chemicals, packaging films, technical textiles, coated and laminated fabrics, and more.

Arun Bharat Ram’s net worth, as of May 6, 2023, is around Rs 28,600 crore (USD 3.5 billion), according to Forbes. He was ranked 905th in the world’s Billionaires list of 2023 and 53rd in India’s richest list of 2022. Arun Bharat Ram holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan in the US. He attended The Doon School for his schooling. Ram’s late wife, Manju, founded the Shri Ram Group of Schools in Delhi and Gurgaon. He currently serves as the Chairman of Lady Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi. Ram has three children, including two sons named Ashish and Kartik, who assist him in managing his business. SRF Ltd, his company, operates 14 manufacturing plants, including ones in Thailand and South Africa.

Apart from his business pursuits, Arun Bharat Ram is also a passionate musician. He learned to play the sitar from the legendary musician, the late Ravi Shankar.
