Bimal Patel, a renowned architect hailing from Gujarat, has designed the upcoming Parliament building scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday, May 27. With a prominent presence in the field, Patel is recognized for his contribution to several remarkable completed and ongoing projects. Notably, he is currently involved in designing the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and played a pivotal role in the groundbreaking Sabarmati Riverfront project. Who is Bimal Patel?

Bimal Hasmukh Patel is a highly accomplished architect with more than three decades of experience. He possesses extensive expertise in urban design and planning. Presently, Patel serves as the President of CEPT University (formerly known as the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology) located in Ahmedabad. He also leads HCP Design Planning and Management Private Limited, a firm established by his father, Hasmukh C Patel, in 1960. Hasmukh Patel, an esteemed architect himself, has designed numerous iconic buildings.

Bimal Patel completed his schooling at St. Xavier’s High School, Loyola Hall in Ahmedabad, before pursuing architecture at the School of Architecture, Center for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT). Later, he furthered his studies at UC Berkeley in the United States, where he obtained a PhD in 1995. In 1990, Bimal Patel joined his father Hasmukh Patel’s architectural firm.

Bimal Patel has received numerous prestigious awards throughout his career. In 1992, he was honored with the Aga Khan Award, followed by the World Architecture Award in 2001. Recognizing his contributions to the field, he was bestowed with the Padma Shri in 2019. Among his notable projects, Bimal Patel has been involved in the Kankaria Lake Development, Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad, Bhuj Development Plan, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India building, Gujarat High Court, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad New Campus, and Swarnim Sankul at Gandhinagar.

Bagged Rs 229 crore deal for Parliament, Raj Path redevelopment

Bimal Patel’s firm, HCP Designs, successfully secured the consultancy bid for the Central Vista project. Their expertise and services for this ambitious undertaking, which includes the construction of the new Parliament, will be rewarded with a payment of Rs 229.75 crore.

Patel’s firm offers a comprehensive range of services for the Central Vista project, as disclosed by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri last year. These services encompass the preparation of the project’s master plan, design of the structures involved, cost estimation, integration of traffic, provision of parking facilities, and landscape design.
