Dr. Abdul Karim attended Independence Primary and Secondary School in Freetown, Sierra Leone before moving to the United States. He later became a naturalized US citizen.

Dr. Abdul Karim Bangura, a scholar, researcher, author, and academic administrator from Sierra Leone, is followed as the most educated person in the world. He holds an impressive array of degrees, including a B.A. in International Studies, an M.A. in International Affairs, an M.S. in Linguistics, a Ph.D. in Political Science, a Ph.D. in Development Economics, a Ph.D. in Linguistics, a Ph.D. in Computer Science, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics. 

Dr. Abdul Karim has authored and edited 35 books and has published over 250 scholarly articles. An accomplished linguist, he can speak 18 languages fluently, including English, Temne, Mende, Krio, Fula, Kono, Limba, Sherbro, Kiswahili, Spanish, Italian, French, Arabic, Hebrew, German, and Swedish.

Dr. Abdul Karim Bangura was born on August 26, 1953, in Bo, Southern Province of Sierra Leone. His father, Alie Kunda Bangura, was an engineer and a member of the Bangura Chiefs of Port Loko in Northern Sierra Leone. Dr. Bangura had a deep admiration for his father and was inspired by him throughout his life. 

He once mentioned in an interview that his father taught him to fight against injustice, and tyranny, and promote the cause of the oppressed, depressed, repressed, and suppressed, which has influenced his writing.

Dr. Abdul Karim Bangura completed his primary and secondary education at Independence Primary and Secondary School in Freetown, Sierra Leone before moving to the United States to pursue his studies. In 1978, he received an Associate degree from Northern Virginia Community College. 

He later earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Arts from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1982. In 1983, Dr. Bangura received a Master of Science degree from Stockholm University in Stockholm, Sweden.
