One notable example is IAS officer Gaurav Agarwal, who not only cracked this prestigious exam once but achieved this feat twice. Gaurav Agarwal is an IAS officer from the 2013 batch, currently serving in Rajasthan. His journey began when he cracked the UPSC exam in 2012, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 244 and getting selected as an IPS officer. However, his determination drove him to attempt the exam again in 2013, where he excelled with remarkable success, achieving AIR 1. This outstanding achievement made him the first person from his home state to secure AIR 1 in the UPSC exam.

Prior to appearing for the UPSC exam, Gaurav Agarwal gained professional experience as a Trader at Citigroup in Hong Kong. He dedicated approximately 3.5 years of his career from June 2008 to September 2011 to this role. Despite the financial stability and success of his well-paying job, Gaurav made the courageous decision to resign and embark on his journey of preparing for the UPSC exam. Additionally, he worked at IBM India Research Labs for a duration of seven months.

Gaurav Agarwal successfully completed his graduation in Computer Science from the esteemed IIT Kanpur between 2001 and 2005. However, during his final semester, he encountered a setback as he failed in one of the subjects, which resulted in a delay of one year. Consequently, his degree was extended for an additional semester to fulfil the academic requirements. Undeterred by this challenge, Gaurav went on to crack the CAT (Common Admission Test) in 2005, paving the way for his admission to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow. He pursued his post-graduation in Finance from IIM Lucknow, further enriching his educational journey.
