UPSC success tale: IPS Abhishek Pallava dedicated seven years of service in the Naxal-infested region.

IPS Abhishek Pallava is an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) who has gained recognition for his compassionate approach in dealing with law and order issues. Unlike the typical image of IPS officers known for their strict actions, Abhishek Pallava has won the admiration of people residing in volatile Naxal regions such as Bastar and Dantewada. His humane methods have touched the hearts of the locals, setting him apart from his peers.

Abhishek Pallava is an IPS (Indian Police Service) officer belonging to the Chhattisgarh cadre. He is presently holding the position of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Durg, Chhattisgarh since April 2022. Recognized for his noteworthy efforts in combating Naxal activities, IPS Pallava dedicated seven years of his service in the Naxal-infested region. In 2017, Pallava gained widespread attention for saving the life of a Naxal insurgent, despite having shot him during an operation. This incident took place when he served as the additional SP of Bastar.

IPS Abhishek Pallava hails from Begusarai district in Bihar and has an interesting background as a doctor-turned-cop. He pursued his medical education at Goa University from 1999 to 2005, obtaining an MBBS degree. Subsequently, he pursued further specialization in psychiatry and completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from AIIMS Delhi, where he participated in the Psychiatry Residency Program from 2006 to 2009. This unique combination of medical expertise and law enforcement has contributed to his multifaceted approach in serving as an IPS officer.

Abhishek Pallava achieved success by cracking the UPSC (Union Civil Services Examination) in 2012, earning the prestigious rank of IPS (Indian Police Service). His father, Rishi Kumar, served in the army, instilling a sense of discipline and dedication in him. Abhishek is married to Dr. Yasha Pallav, who practices as a doctor in Dantewada. The couple has a 10-year-old son named Advik, completing their family.
