Forbes has listed the five wealthiest women in India as Savitri Jindal, Rohiqa Cyrus Mistry, Rekha Jhunjhunwala, Vinod Rai Gupta, and Leena Tewari.

On April 4, Forbes published its yearly list of billionaires for 2023, which includes the list of India’s richest billionaires. Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance, is now the wealthiest person in both India and Asia according to the popular business magazine.

Forbes added 16 new billionaires to India’s billionaire list for 2023, three of whom are women.

Savitri Jindal, Rohiqa Cyrus Mistry, Rekha Jhunjhunwala, Vinod Rai Gupta, and Leena Tewari are the top five wealthiest women in India, according to the Forbes list.

Leena Gandhi Tewari is not a well-known name because she avoids the media, but she inherited a huge fortune from the pharmaceutical industry. Leena Tewari is the leader of USV India, a privately held company. She is presently worth $3.7 billion (over Rs 30,000 crore) and is ranked higher than Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon, Falguni Nayar of Nykaa, and Radha Vembu of Zoho Corp on the list of the richest women in India.

Leena Tewari’s pharmaceutical company is one of the top five in India for cardiovascular and diabetic medicines. Additionally, it manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), injectables, and biosimilar drugs. USV’s Glycoment, an anti-diabetic formulation, is among the top three in the domestic industry.

According to Fortune magazine, Tewari prefers to stay away from Mumbai’s social events and parties, but she is a philanthropist.

Leena Tewari is a 65-year-old businesswoman who enjoys traveling and reading. She completed her BCom from the University of Mumbai and an MBA from Boston University. She is married to Prashant Tewari, who is the MD of USV and also runs the company. Prashant Tewari studied engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Cornell University in the US. The couple has a daughter named Aneesha Gandhi Tewari.
