Meet Dr. MSN Reddy, a renowned scientist-turned-entrepreneur who founded and chairs MSN Labs, one of the fastest-growing pharmaceutical companies in India. With a successful research career in the pharma industry, Dr. Reddy is now among Hyderabad’s richest people, having built his empire from scratch.

The story of Dr. Manne Satyanarayana Reddy starts in Gurukunta, a village in the Mahboobnagar District of Telangana. After completing his schooling and graduation in his hometown, Dr. Reddy obtained his MSc and PhD from Osmania University, beginning his career in 1990.

Within just over ten years of working for pharma multinationals, Reddy advanced through the ranks to hold top positions such as Head of Research and Development and Group Leader at a leading Indian pharmaceutical company. However, instead of pursuing a high-paying corporate career, Reddy chose to take the leap and start his own business in 2003.

Dr. Reddy founded MSN Labs with an initial capital of Rs 5 crore. Within a decade, the company achieved a turnover of $670 million in FY 2021-22. The company has grown from a small team to over 14,000 employees and operates in 65 countries. The Hyderabad-based group has five companies and is one of the top producers of affordable generic medicine.

The MSN group has a robust research team of more than 2,200 employees. The group has expanded to 16 factories in India, Myanmar, and the United States. Dr Reddy’s company started manufacturing Favilow, an economical version of Covid-19 medicine Favipiravir, in 2020. He is also an inventor with several patents on products and processes. According to Forbes’ real-time rich list, Dr Reddy’s net worth is over Rs 11,442 crore ($1.4 billion).
