Piyush Gupta was born in Meerut and attended St. Columba’s High School in Delhi for his schooling.

Born in 1960 in India, Piyush Gupta is a highly successful corporate leader and the Chief Executive Officer of DBS Group, which had assets worth over 500 billion dollars in 2019.

Gupta hails from Meerut but completed his schooling at St Columba’s High School in Delhi. He earned his BA degree from St. Stephen’s College before going on to pursue an MBA at IIM Ahmedabad.

Starting in 1982 at the age of 22, Piyush Gupta began his career with Citibank. He moved to Singapore in 1991 as the head of Citibank Asia, leading the company in Malaysia for several years before becoming Citibank’s CEO for South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2009, he joined DBS as CEO.

Piyush Gupta has a variety of interests outside of his work. He is an avid reader and bird watcher and also enjoys playing golf and badminton.

Gupta is a citizen of Singapore and also holds the Overseas Citizenship of India card.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Gupta has a wealth of experience in the corporate world.

Piyush Gupta is an accomplished leader who holds several prominent positions in Singapore’s business and educational sectors. He currently serves as the chairman of the board of Singapore Management University and is an active member of various other organizations.

In 2020, Piyush Gupta received the Public Service Star from the President of Singapore in recognition of his contributions to public service. He was also honored with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award in 2023, which is given annually to Indian ex-pats for their exceptional achievements in their respective fields.

Piyush Gupta has been featured in the Harvard Business Review’s list of the top 100 best-performing CEOs of the world. He completed his MBA from IIM between 1980 and 1982 and his graduation between 1977 and 1980.

Last year, Piyush Gupta’s annual earnings saw a 13.2 percent increase, making him one of the highest-paid individuals in the corporate world. He earned 15.4 million Singapore dollars, which converts to over Rs 94,80,89,591 or more than Rs 25 lakh per day.

Out of his earnings, his base salary was SGD 1.5 million, the cash bonus amounted to 5.77 million Singapore dollars, and he received deferred cash and shares worth SGD 8.04 million.

Additionally, he received 89,529 dollars, with 1 Singaporean dollar being equal to Rs 61. In 2021, his earnings were reported to be 13.6 million Singapore dollars.
