However, the Tata Group, under the leadership of Ratan Tata, places great emphasis on ethics in its corporate governance and business practices. Throughout their long history, they have appointed chief ethics officers. Following their example, HDFC Bank has recently appointed a chief ethics officer.

Prasoon Singh, who previously held the position of chief vigilance officer, has been appointed as the chief ethics officer of HDFC Bank. The bank has a market capitalization of over Rs 9,24,235 crore.

Who is Prasoon Singh?

Prasoon Singh hails from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and attended St. Xavier’s School for his schooling. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University and later secured a job in the Central Excise and Customs Department, where he was posted in Mumbai. Afterward, he joined the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and worked there as an intelligence officer for over seven years. Singh eventually joined the Enforcement Directorate as an enforcement directorate before moving to the private sector as the Chief Vigilance Officer at HDFC Bank, a position he held for several years.

He has worked at HDFC Bank for more than 9 years and 9 months, serving as the Chief of Internal Vigilance and heading the bank’s fraud and vigilance department.

From July 2002 to November 2009, he worked as an intelligence officer at the ED. Prior to that, he served as an excise inspector from May 1995 to July 2002.

He obtained a law degree from CSMU in Navi Mumbai and studied management at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
