UPSC success story: On Tuesday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the results of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022. A remarkable total of 933 candidates have successfully cleared the UPSC CSE exam, paving their way to become IAS, IPS, IFS, and other officers. Notably, among these accomplished individuals is Ram Bhajan Kumar, currently serving as a head constable in the Delhi Police. In this article, we will delve into his UPSC journey and explore the inspiration behind his decision to take part in this prestigious examination.

Who is Ram Bhajan Kumar? Ram Bhajan Kumar is a head constable in the Delhi Police, currently stationed at a cyber cell police station. At the age of 34, he has achieved a remarkable feat by cracking the UPSC exam, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 667. It is worth noting that this was his eighth attempt at the exam. Not only that, but he is also determined to appear for the upcoming UPSC preliminary exams on May 28, with the aim of further improving his rank. Hailing from Rajasthan, Kumar joined the police force in 2009 as a constable.

Kumar ensured that he dedicated a minimum of six hours every day to study, and he purchased study materials from Mukherjee Nagar in Delhi. When the exam dates drew near, he would apply for a month’s leave from his duties and devote nearly 16 hours each day to intensive preparation.

When asked if he drew inspiration from anyone within his department, Kumar mentioned Firoz Alam. Firoz Alam, previously a constable in the Delhi Police, cleared the UPSC exams in 2019 and eventually ascended to the position of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). Firoz Alam’s remarkable journey served as a source of motivation for Kumar in pursuing his own UPSC aspirations.

“After witnessing Sir Alam’s achievement and securing a rank, I was inspired to put in more effort and strive harder. In addition, he created a WhatsApp group with the purpose of encouraging and motivating aspirants like myself and others who are aiming for the UPSC. He has been a consistent source of support for me until this day,” Kumar added.

“It is a realization of a long-awaited dream. This was my eighth attempt, and being a part of the OBC category, I am eligible for a total of nine attempts, with this being my second-to-last chance,” he expressed. When asked about the driving force that kept him going despite facing failures in the past few years, he attributed it to his wife’s unwavering support and encouragement. She became his pillar of strength throughout his journey.
