Success is often the rewarding outcome of dedicating oneself to hard work and investing all of one’s energy into it. Many students put in long hours and strive to secure their desired positions in large corporations and international businesses. For most college students, the ultimate goal is to receive a lucrative starting salary package in the eight-figure range. This aspiration recently came to fruition for an MTech student from IIT Guwahati.

The multinational corporation Uber extended a job offer to Rohit Negi, who hails from Kotdwar in Uttarakhand and is the son of a small farmer. The offer is valued at an impressive sum of Rs 2.05 crore.

Who is Rohit Negi?

Rohit, a software engineer hailing from Kotdwar in Uttarakhand, was pursuing post-graduation at IIT when he received a job offer from the company. His starting salary will be around Rs 96 lakh, while the cost to the company for hiring him is estimated to be Rs 2.05 crore.

When reflecting on his journey, Rohit disclosed that he comes from a lower-middle-class family. His family’s monthly expenses are less than Rs 10,000, and his mother is a homemaker while his father works as a farmer. Additionally, he has a sister who works as a nurse. For his family, the news of him receiving a job offer worth Rs 2.05 crore is an incredible and overwhelming feeling.

Achieving his desired salary package was not an easy feat for Rohit. He wasn’t the most studious student in his class, and his grades in both high school and college were average. Even after graduating, he faced challenges in finding employment. Rohit revealed that only WIPRO used to recruit candidates from his college with a package of Rs 3.5 lakh. “There were many students in the college, but opportunities were limited,” Rohit stated.

Rohit’s hard work paid off when he scored a decent grade on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), which enabled him to secure admission into IIT Guwahati. With his unwavering determination and diligent efforts, Rohit was able to change his fate. In 2020, around one lakh students appeared for the GATE exam, and Rohit secured a rank of 202, a remarkable achievement.

As per media reports, Rohit’s impressive GATE score helped him secure admission to pursue an MTech degree at IIT Guwahati. After receiving a staggering salary package worth Rs 2 crore from Uber, Rohit has been working as a software engineer at the company for the past 11 months. In addition to this, he also runs a YouTube channel where he shares valuable insights and guidance with students regarding GATE and placements.
