A software engineer who became a farmer is inspiring his community with innovative agricultural techniques.

Satya Prabin, a software engineer from Odisha’s Rayagada district, quit his high-paying IT job in Malaysia to return to his village and follow his passion for farming. He was inspired by his father’s vegetable farming and now uses modern techniques like drip irrigation and organic fertilizers on his 34-acre land. His farming success has made him a role model for other farmers in the community.

Satya completed his B.Tech in software engineering and worked for a Malaysian IT company for 11 years, earning Rs 2 lakh per month. Despite his successful career, he was always passionate about farming, inspired by his father’s work in the fields. In 2020, he returned to his village and began farming, using modern techniques and organic fertilizers to grow various vegetables.

Satya’s innovative farming techniques have gained the admiration of locals and authorities, employing around 60 people and contributing to the local economy. Collector Swadha Dev Singh visited his farmland and commended his work.

Satya is a farming role model for the community. Small-scale farmers should grow vegetables with organic fertilizers like Satya to become self-sufficient, says the Rayagada block development officer. Organic vegetables are also better for health.
