Actress Shruti Sodhi, who will soon be seen in the lead role in the upcoming Hindi film Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, has had a diverse career so far.

Shruti Sodhi has had a diverse career path, beginning as an anchor before transitioning into the film industry. Throughout her career, she has acted in films in three different languages and is now set to make her mark in Bollywood as the lead actress in the upcoming movie, Ab Dilli Dur Nahin. In an exclusive interview with DNA, the actress reflects on her journey so far.

Shruti Sodhi in Pataas

In 2015, Shruti landed her most significant role to date when she made her Telugu debut in Pataas opposite Kalyan Ram. “Telugu cinema is very glamorous and larger-than-life,” says Shruti. “I have had a lot of fun working on such diverse films in that industry.”

In Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, Shruti portrays the quintessential girl-next-door opposite Imran Zahid. “I have played the girl-next-door in many films, so it’s something I know I can do,” says the actress. “I have portrayed journalists, singers, and homemakers. However, the Cocktail-style Deepika Padukone character has not come my way. Besides, such roles are relatively rare.”

Shruti Sodhi in Taxi Vaala

Shruti says that she gets her share of glamorous roles through the songs she performs in South Indian films. She was famously part of the hit song “Taxi Vaala” in the Sai Dharam Tej-starrer Supreme in 2016. “Even commercial filmmakers are now making grounded cinema with realistic stories,” says Shruti. “However, I do glamorous Telugu songs. Therefore, I get that aspect of performance there.”

Shruti Sodhi in Ab Dilli Dur Nahin

Shruti chose a slice-of-life film for her Hindi debut in Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, which is a small-budget film. Talking about her choice, she says, “In today’s time, you see all kinds of films because there are so many avenues. It was essential for me to do a good project instead of something that is mass commercial, and I am glad I made that decision.”

Ab Dilli Dur Nahin

Ab Dilli Dur Nahin was released in theaters on May 12, and although it is a small-budget film, it is generating some buzz. Shruti is grateful for the attention and says, “I am happy. I once did a film where there were six National Award winners with me. I did it in 2015, and it still has not been released. So, an actor goes through those phases too. So, when you get a release where people react and appreciate it, it is always a special feeling.”
