Smita Sabharwal, an IAS officer, cracked the UPSC examination in her first attempt at the young age of 22.
Millions of Indians dream of cracking the UPSC exam and becoming an IAS officer. Every year, lakhs of aspirants from across the country appear for the UPSC exam to become an IAS officer. However, only a few hundred of them succeed in achieving this dream.
In the UPSC exam, some aspirants manage to become an IAS officer on their first attempt, while others clear it in their third or fourth attempt. Smita Sabharwal is an example of the former category. She cleared the UPSC exam at the age of 22 in her first attempt and is said to be the youngest female IAS officer in India, according to reports.

IAS officer Smita Sabharwal secured AIR 4 in the UPSC exam in 2000. She was born in Darjeeling, West Bengal, and is the daughter of a retired Army colonel, Colonel Pranab Das, who settled in Hyderabad after retirement. Smita Sabharwal completed her schooling at St. Ann’s and pursued her graduation in commerce from St. Francis College in Hyderabad. She was also the topper of her Class 12. On Twitter, she refers to herself as an “Army brat” and has a significant following of 3.35 lakh people.
IAS officer Smita Sabharwal is famously known as the “people’s officer”. She has been appointed to various districts in Telangana, including Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, and Chittoor. Moreover, she is the youngest officer to have been appointed at the Chief Minister’s office.
