Pratima Mishra Shows, Cases, and Awards

Pratima started her career with a two-month-long internship with CNN-IBN, post which she joined the ABP New group in 2012 and has been working with them ever since. She started her career as a ground reporter and has never been accused of biased reporting. With her talent and impressive work, she’s made it to hosting the four-hour-long morning show of ABP News Namaste Bharat.

Pratima has worked on and covered high-profile cases such as the 2012 Nirbhaya Gangrape Case, IPL Season 8, Kashmir Floods, Hasrath Case, and Delhi Elections.

The 2012 Nirbhaya Gangrape Case in Delhi shook the entire nation. The news spread like wildfire after Nirbhaya’s injured body was found naked in a drain on the Munirka Highway. The incident took place on the 16th of December, 2012. After a struggle of 11 long days, the victim was transferred to a hospital in Singapore for an emergency but died two days later. Protests broke out in the country and the capital, questioning women’s safety in the nation, primarily the National Capital.

Hathras Case: News Reporter Pratima Mishra

Nirbhaya’s struggle and death became the symbol of resistance to rape for women around the world. Post which, several new laws were passed, and six fast-track courts were set up across the country to hear rape cases. Mishra had then newly joined ABP but fearlessly covered the case and played an important role in bringing people’s voices to the Government and vice versa.

Mishra also covered the 2020 Hathras case, where even she was abused by the police as they forcibly drove her away from the spot and interfered with her reporting. On 14th September 2020, the Hathras case victim, who happens to be 19 year old Dalit, was gang-raped by four upper-caste men, who injured her spinal cord in the process. The men tried strangling her with her dupatta and cut her tongue off.

Later, when the victim was taken to the police station, they were humiliated, and the FIR was not registered. After constant pressure from the family, the FIR was finally registered. The victim was admitted to a hospital in Aligarh and then to one in Delhi after her condition worsened. Two days later, she was declared dead by the hospital and was sent back to Hasrath.

The police officers back in Hasrath locked up the victim’s family and cremated the victim’s body using petrol without her family’s consent. This event blew out of proportion, and to reach the family was a task next to impossible. Even former congress president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi were stopped midway. Mishra sat down on strike till she reached the family and gathered information on the ongoings. It was a major key in getting the Hasrath victim justice.

In 2014, several districts in the state of Kashmir were heavily flooded. Mishra, with all her courage, went ahead to cover this.

Due to her exceptional and unbiased work, Mishra has also been awarded the Ramnath Goenka award in 2017, also known as the RNG awards, one of the most prestigious awards in India in the field of journalism, held annually since 2006.
