Manoj Modi, despite being the right hand of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, chooses to live a low-profile life and avoids attracting attention to himself.

Manoj Modi, often referred to as the right-hand man of Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance, chooses to maintain a low profile, with only a handful of people beyond India’s business community recognizing his name. Nevertheless, he is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures behind India’s wealthiest man’s vast business conglomerate.

Despite being the right-hand man of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, Manoj Modi leads a low-key life and prefers to stay out of the public eye. He played a significant role in facilitating the $5.7 billion deal between Reliance Jio and Facebook Inc.

Manoj Modi is quietly aiding Mukesh Ambani’s digital technology expansion plans by securing lucrative deals. Following the agreement with Facebook, Jio Platforms has entered into numerous agreements with private equity firms, injecting USD 13 billion into the enterprise.

Little is known about Manoj Modi’s personal life, but it is believed that he is in his 60s. Manoj Modi refrains from giving interviews.

Vani Kola, the managing director of venture capital firm Kalaari Capital Partners, said, “The company may not publicly advertise its organizational structure, but the industry is aware that Ambani and Modi make a formidable team, driving deal negotiations and executing them with meticulous attention to detail. I convinced Modi to make a rare public appearance at a conference last year, albeit via video.”

Manoj Modi holds director positions at Reliance Retail Ltd. and Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Senior business executives suggest that he is an adept negotiator and is skilled at securing favorable deals. When dealing with startups, Modi prefers to control negotiations indirectly, as per the Economic Times.

Manoj Modi is a long-time veteran of Reliance Industries, having joined the company in the 1980s when Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s late father, was building the oil and petrochemicals behemoth. Modi and Mukesh Ambani were classmates at the University Department of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, according to sources.

Manoj Modi shares a good working relationship with Mukesh Ambani’s wife, Nita Ambani, as well as his children Isha and Akash Ambani, who are spearheading the telecom and retail businesses.
