It is truly remarkable that a young boy from Filterpada, Powai in Mumbai, with a humble background, was able to achieve his dream of becoming an engineer and working for one of the most prestigious organizations in the country.
The story of Prathamesh Hirve is a testament to the power of miracles in life. He is the first engineer from Mumbai to join the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), a remarkable achievement that highlights his dedication and hard work. Among 16,000 applicants in 2016, Prathamesh’s application stood out and he was selected to work as an electrical scientist at ISRO.
Despite facing significant challenges living in a slum in Filterpada, Prathamesh remained determined to achieve his goals. He worked hard and eventually completed a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic College, demonstrating his perseverance and dedication to his education.

Following his completion of the diploma program, Prathamesh secured internships at both Larsen and Toubro and Tata Powers, gaining valuable industry experience. He then went on to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Smt Indira Gandhi College of Engineering in Navi Mumbai, further expanding his knowledge and skills in the field.
During an interview with MidDay, Prathamesh shared that his education up until 10th grade was conducted in the Marathi language. Despite facing significant challenges in both his living conditions and language barriers, he never lost sight of his aspirations. He even attempted the UPSC exams, but was unable to clear them, leading him to pursue his career at ISRO.
