Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, owned by Mukesh Ambani, has appointed RS Sodhi, a senior leader in the dairy industry. Sodhi resigned from his position as Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Foundation in January. The foundation runs Amul, one of the world’s largest milk-producing companies, and Sodhi worked for the company for more than four decades. He joined Amul in 1982 when the company’s revenue was Rs 121 crore. As of 2022-23, the provisional unduplicated group turnover of member unions of the Amul group had crossed Rs 72,000 crore, while the company’s revenue was over Rs 55,000 crore last fiscal year.

Reliance Retail Ventures Limited has not made any official statement, but according to the Times of India, it is anticipated that RS Sodhi will assist in the retail business led by Isha Ambani. He may aid in the expansion of Reliance’s grocery business and help the company strengthen its position in the fruit and vegetable retail sector.

Reliance Consumer Products Limited has been aggressively expanding its business by launching several products, including Campa Cola and personal care products.

In Reliance’s retail division, Sodhi is not the only senior industry leader to have joined as former Coca-Cola India president T Krishnakumar has also joined the company. Sodhi may also be tasked to head the dairy and value-added dairy sector.

Who is RS Sodhi?

Sodhi began his journey with Amul as a senior sales officer in 1982 and then rose through the ranks to become the managing director of the company in June 2010.

He has an engineering background, having completed his course from CTAE in Udaipur. He pursued his MBA from the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IIRMA). Additionally, he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Anand Agriculture.

He hails from Delhi and received his education at a municipal school in the city.

Prior to his appointment as the MD, he had led the marketing and sales departments of the company for twenty years. He is acknowledged for his contribution to the company’s successful campaigns, such as “world’s original energy drink” and “Amul Dhoodh Peeta Hai India.”

When he joined the company, its turnover was Rs 8000. Over a period of 13 years, he increased the turnover of the company to Rs 72,000 crore.

When he started working at Amul, his salary was only Rs 1450.
