Sabyasachi Mukherjee was born on February 23, 1974, in Manicktala, West Bengal, India. He is a renowned fashion designer, couturier, retailer, and jewelry designer who has gained high acclaim. He is the founder and brand owner of the famous Indian brand “Sabyasachi” and is also a board member of the “Fashion Design Council of India” as an associate designer.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee attended Sri Aurobindo Vidyamandir in Kolkata for his primary and secondary education and went on to study at St. Xavier College. He then pursued his passion for fashion by earning a degree in fashion design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Kolkata.

Despite facing initial resistance from his parents to pursue a career in fashion design, Sabyasachi managed to pay for his admission and entrance exams by selling his books. In 1999, he started his label, but it was a challenging start. He struggled to find buyers for his designs and often had to take up odd jobs to make ends meet. However, he persevered and continued to work tirelessly towards his goals.

In 2001, Sabyasachi had a breakthrough moment when he showcased his designs at the Lakme Fashion Week. His creations were highly appreciated by critics, and he gained instant recognition in the fashion industry. This was the turning point of his career, and he continued to soar high from thereon.

He founded a non-profit organization called “Save the Saree,” which seeks to promote and preserve traditional Indian textiles and crafts. The organization collaborates with retailers to weave Indian sarees priced at ₹ 3500. By doing so, he not only supports local artisans but also offers an affordable alternative to mass-produced garments.
