Ranjan was born in Deoghar, Jharkhand, India. He started his career in the year 2010 at p7 news he worked there for more than five years, it was a local area news channel in Noida. He then went on to join Zee media Corporation limited as an anchor cum Assignment head.

He continued working for zee media for the next eleven months and went on to join TV24 as an Editor he worked there also for eleven months, then in the year 2019 he went on to join News world India as an Executive producer. He completed over a year in that post and then in July 2020 he rejoined Zee Media Corporation Limited as a full-time News Anchor

Rohit Ranjan Controversies

On July 1st, 2022, Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan came under fire for showing fabricated news about Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The news instigated Congress party supporters, and an FIR was filed against Ranjan by Devendra Yadav, a Congress MLA. Yadav claimed that the video was designed to encourage conflict between groups and instigate religious feelings.

The video showed Rahul Gandhi forgiving people who had vandalized his office, but the team at Zee News edited the footage to make it appear as if Gandhi was requesting forgiveness for people involved in the murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal. Anti-social elements edited the video, and Ranjan showed it without verification.

After Yadav filed the police complaint, the Chhattisgarh police tried to arrest Ranjan at his residence. Ranjan tweeted about the situation, and the Ghaziabad police also rushed to his home, leading to a battle for custody. Ranjan was eventually released on interim bail.

Ranjan and his team apologized to Rahul Gandhi and the people of India, admitting that they had made a mistake by linking the two videos. They were accused of several crimes, including promoting enmity between different groups, forgery, and intentional insult.

Some other members of the Zee News team were also accused, including the director, chairman, and CEO of the company. Ranjan was approached for judicial custody a second time, but the police could not find him at his residence, leading to his being declared absconding.

Ranjan later presented himself to the Supreme Court to seek relief from the multiple FIRs filed against him. The court granted relief, protecting him from any compulsion to be taken into custody. Ranjan’s lawyer had requested several reliefs, including revoking the FIRs against him or clubbing them together.
